FinanceAI
AI Should Move More Than Productivity.
It Should Move Financial Performance.
NOVON FinanceAI helps CFOs understand what is driving the numbers, and where data, automation and AI can materially change them.
The number tells you there is a problem. The harder question is what is driving it.
Margin has fallen. Labour costs have increased. Working capital has deteriorated. Forecast accuracy is poor. The reason behind that number usually sits somewhere else in the business.
Reduce Cost. Improve Productivity.
And Make AI Pay.
CFOs are facing competing demands. They need to keep taking cost out of the organisation and improve Finance productivity. At the same time they are being asked to fund transformation, support growth and demonstrate a credible return from AI.
Most organisations already have significant investments in ERP, data platforms, reporting, analytics and increasingly AI.
Where should we apply AI so that it actually changes a business outcome?
Financial performance is created across the business, in processes, decisions and data. Finance reports it.
Don’t Start With an AI Use Case. Start With an Outcome Worth Changing.
- Find AI use cases
- Prioritise them
- Implement them
- Try to measure the value
- Choose the financial outcome
- Understand what is driving it
- Identify what needs to change
- Determine where AI and automation can help
- Prove the impact
We are not looking for somewhere to put AI. We are looking for a business outcome worth improving, then determining whether AI is one of the interventions that can improve it.
Pick a Number That Matters. Then Ask What Is Really Driving It.
Choose the one financial outcome you would materially like to improve. We work backwards from there into the business.
Margin has fallen and the mix of reasons is not visible in the P&L.
- Pricing and discounting decisions made outside a consistent framework
- Product and customer mix that has drifted without anyone owning the shift
- Cost of delivery that is not attributed accurately at the job or product level
- Rebates, claims and credits that are recorded too late to influence the outcome
From the Financial Outcome to Measurable Impact.
Often the Number Cannot Be Trusted. That Is a Data Problem.
When Finance cannot rely on a figure, the cause is usually upstream. A field captured differently in two systems, a manual correction made every month, a rule applied in one process and not another. We trace the number back to its source, find where the error is introduced, fix the data underneath it and fix the process that created it, so it stays fixed.
We follow the figure back through the reports, the models and the systems to the point where it is created, and identify exactly where the error enters.
We correct the underlying data rather than the report, so every downstream number that depends on it moves with it.
The process, controls and ownership that let the error occur are changed too. A one off correction returns next month.
Applying AI on top of data you cannot trust does not surface the problem. It scales it, and it does so faster than anyone can check.
AI Is Not Automatically the Answer.
Sometimes the biggest opportunity will be better data. Sometimes it will be removing a broken process. Sometimes automation. Sometimes better decision making. And sometimes AI can materially change the outcome through prediction, optimisation, intelligent automation or agentic capabilities. The order matters, because AI applied over a number that is wrong at source will only produce the wrong answer more often.
The objective is not to implement AI. The objective is to improve financial performance, using AI where it creates measurable value.
NOVON FinanceAI Accelerator
One outcome. A defined engagement. A measurable path to value.
Pick one financial outcome that matters. We work with Finance and the relevant parts of the business to understand what is driving it, where performance is being constrained, what role data plays and where automation or AI could materially improve the result. The engagement then takes the highest value opportunity far enough to demonstrate what can be changed and establish the path to implementation.
Choose the Outcome
One number, agreed with Finance and the business that influences it.
Trace the Drivers
We follow the number back through the processes, decisions and data to where it is created, and where performance is lost.
Prove the Opportunity
We take the highest value opportunity far enough to show what can change.
Establish the Path
A costed route to implementation, with the impact defined up front.
